Who Was Cindy Miles and Why a Playground?
Who Was Cindy Miles?
Cindy Miles, known for her expertise as a therapist and speaker, passionately advocated for fitness and wellness in all her interactions. Cindy held the position of president at the American Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy for 6 years and ran a successful private practice specializing in pediatric physical therapy for over 25 years in Whitehall, Pennsylvania.
In 2023, the Cindy Miles Adaptive Fund was founded by loved ones to commemorate Cindy and perpetuate her dedication to her profession. The Fund's objective is to construct an inclusive playground in Northampton, PA funded by community contributions, collaborations, and organized events. Cindy’s Playground will serve as an inclusive community center where families of diverse abilities can engage in physical activity altogether.

Where It All Began
In creating this fund, the Miles family recognized that not all playgrounds provide equal accessibility for every child to fully explore and play. An adaptive playground incorporates surfaces that facilitate easy movement for wheelchairs and other equipment onto the play structures, fostering safe exploration and play experiences. Cindy Miles believed that people of all abilities should have opportunities and access to physical activity.
Cindy strongly believed that engaging in physical activity is the foundation for reaching one's maximum potential. Instilling healthy habits in children from a young age supports their development by encouraging participation in activities on playgrounds that promote growth and achievement. Playgrounds provide an ideal setting to challenge children both physically and cognitively, while facilitating social interaction.
